PRP Scar Treatment

Naturally heal scars and stretchmarks

About our PRP Scar Treatment

The uneven texture and color of scars can impact your self-esteem and even cause discomfort. But with our signature treatment protocol, you can greatly reduce the appearance of scars and gain back your full confidence. And it’s all done with your body’s natural regenerative powers; platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a component of your blood, has the power to heal stretchmarks and scars of all kinds, even traumatic ones.

It is an appropriate treatment for:

  • Acne scars (atrophic)
  • Raised scars from surgeries or injuries (keloid or hypertrophic)
  • Scars from burns that create a tight layer of damaged skin (contracture)
  • Stretch marks caused by the natural expansion of your skin over time (striae)

How it Works

The power of PRP lies in the growth factors it carries. It signals your body’s natural healing processes, jumpstarting the production of collagen and elastin in the skin, and allowing new, healthy skin cells to grow and replace the scar tissue. The PRP may be injected or applied topically to the area. Topical application follows a session of microneedling with the SkinPen microneedling device; it creates tiny channels in the top layers of skin that allow the growth factors in the PRP to penetrate the skin. Microneedling also increases collagen and elastin production, adding another layer of healing power to the treatment.

There may be some improvements immediately following your treatment and you will see steady improvements over the following 6 months and beyond as your body produces more collagen and elastin. The irregular texture and skin tone of the scar tissue will even out and possibly disappear completely, leaving you with smooth, flawless skin. You can also expect to see increased firmness, elasticity, and radiance.

What to Expect

First, your blood will be drawn and spun in the centrifuge machine to separate out the PRP. Our centrifugation kit from Accellerated Biologics provides the highest possible concentration of platelets, giving you superior results. The PRP will be injected into the scarred area or applied topically following a session of microneedling.

The treatment is safe, effective, and well-tolerated by most patients. Mild pain or discomfort can be experienced during microneedling or injections, so topical or local anesthesia may be used to minimize it. You may experience redness at the general treated area for 2 to 4 days and there is a possibility of bruising of the injection sites.

Comprehensive Scar Treatment Packages

Some patients may benefit from a specialized scar treatment including the Icon laser, platelet-rich plasma therapy, or shockwave therapy. During your consultation, our physician will determine the most effective course of treatment for your scars.
