Laser Scar and Stretch Mark Removal
Remove scars and reveal confidence with the Icon™ laser
About Icon Laser Treatments
Everyone has scars or stretch marks—they’re a natural part of life. But when they impact your confidence and self-esteem, and, in some cases, even cause discomfort, it’s time for them to go. Not all scars are the same, but the cutting-edge Icon laser safely removes or reduces the appearance of most, including:
- Acne scars (atrophic)
- Raised scars from surgeries or injuries (keloid or hypertrophic)
- Scars from burns that create a tight layer of damaged skin (contracture)
- Stretch marks caused by the natural expansion of your skin over time (striae)
How it Works
Icon utilizes fractional laser technology to deliver specialized pulses of light energy into the skin, targeting uneven pigment and tissue that make up stretch marks and scars without harming the surrounding skin. The light energy is absorbed by the skin and jumpstarts the body’s natural healing process; it increases collagen production to allow new, healthy skin to grow and replace scar tissue. The appearance of scars and stretchmarks will continue to improve during the weeks after the procedure, revealing smooth, even-toned skin.
What to Expect
Sessions typically take less than 30 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated. First, you will be provided eye shields to protect yourself from the laser during treatment. The treatment begins with the technician guiding the Icon hand piece over the treatment area. The laser delivers pulses of light into your skin. Depending on the intensity of your treatment, you may feel nothing or mild discomfort, like the feeling of a rubber band snapping on the skin followed by a warm sensation. You may also experience mild redness or swelling at the treatment site, but this typically resolves within a few days. Gentle cleansers, sensitive skincare products, and non-irritating cosmetics can be used post-treatment. The laser causes photosensitivity, or heightened sensitivity to the sun, and you must avoid sun exposure and use a sunscreen after treatment.
Comprehensive Scar Treatment Packages
Some patients may benefit from a specialized scar treatment including the Icon laser, platelet-rich plasma therapy, or shockwave therapy. During your consultation, our physician will determine the most effective course of treatment for your scars.
The exact number of sessions will depend on the scars you need treated. Mild scarring, like those from acne, may only require one treatment while bigger scars may need several.
If multiple treatments are needed, follow up sessions should be scheduled 3-6 weeks apart.
Most treatments will take under 30 minutes. Larger areas of scarring and stretchmarks may take more time.
Immediately following treatment, redness, swelling, or brown debris on the skin’s surface is common and typically lasts less than 24 hours, but may persist up to 3-5 days in rare cases. Laser treatments increase photosensitivity and you will need to avoid sun exposure and wear a sunscreen of at least SPF 45 during the course of treatment and 4 weeks after your final session.
